The agricultural landscape in India is witnessing a significant shift as farmers increasingly turn to chemical fertilizers and pesticides to boost crop yields. While these chemicals have initially led to higher production, the long-term consequences are becoming alarmingly clear.
The excessive use of synthetic chemicals is linked to a rise in chronic diseases among both farming communities and consumers. Health experts have noted a correlation between chemical exposure and increased rates of respiratory issues, skin diseases, and more severe conditions like cancer and neurological disorders.
Furthermore, the soil health is deteriorating, leading to a cycle where even more chemicals are required to maintain the same yield levels. Transitioning towards organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices is no longer just an environmental choice, but a necessary step for public health in India.
